AI in Manufacturing - New Trends

Updated: Jul 2, 2020

It is always a great pleasure to mingle with people with a certain state of mind focused on providing solutions to real life challenges. One such opportunity was the networking event organized in Vienna that brought together developers of artificial intelligence solutions and manufacturing companies interested in innovating their products, services and processes (Link).

The event was divided in two sessions: (1) a round of presentations about current trends in AI in Manufacturing, overview of EU funding opportunities for AI and a presentation about AI projects at BMW Steyr; and (2) round table networking sessions followed by 1-to-1 meetings.

Some takeaways from the presentations are the following:

  • the emerging AI trends in Manufacturing: AI on the Edge, Shared AI, Hybrid AI (Human in the Loop).

  •  ALOHA (EU funded project) is targeting the implementation of Deep Learning inference on low-power, heterogeneous embedded systems by providing automation for optimal algorithm selection, resource allocation and deployment.

  • Hybrid Intelligence (combination of human and artificial intelligence) is a vital concept for each professional that wants to thrive in the digital age. With digitalisation and a hyper-connected world it is not far-fetched to estimate that in the next ten years the share of jobs that will change is 100%.

Round table presentations and 1-to-1 meetings were a good opportunity to assess the landscape of potential partners and to introduce our Edge AI / Embedded 3D Data Processing Technologies for Crowd Analysis (Scalable People Counting Platform, Queue Length Detection and Semantic Classification of Human Activities).

Fruitful discussions and follow up meetings with both solution providers and manufacturing companies contributed to an overall positive outcome with great potential for innovative partnerships.
