A network of 3D cameras mounted in such a way that their viewing fields are overlapping at extremities allows the instantaneous detection of the number of people in the monitored area.

In our proof of concept scenario we extracted the number of people waiting in a queue at a restaurant. Subsequently, by calculating the speed of the people movements, and by knowing the length of the queue, we were able to estimate the average waiting time.
